Q: How can I purchase a Crossroads Service?
A: You can purchase a Crossroads Service either by your own means, through an iCAREbudget for the Family Carer (through a Carer’s Assessment), or through a Personal Budget for the person with care needs (through a Community Care Assessment).

Q: How do I apply for a Carer’s Assessment?
A: You can ask to have a Carer’s Assessment by contacting Suffolk County Council’s Customer First Team on 0808 800 4005, alternatively if the person you care for has an allocated Social Worker or are allocated to an area team then the Social Worker or a member of the area team will be able to carry out the Carer’s Assessment.

Q: How do I apply for a Community Care Assessment?
A: You can ask to have the person you for assessed through Suffolk County Council’s Customer First Team on 0808 800 4005, alternatively if the person you care for has an allocated Social Worker or are allocated to an area team then the Social Worker or a member of the area team will be able to carry out the Community Care Assessment.

Q: Do I as a Family Carer need to be living with the person I care for to get support?
A: This is no longer a requirement for you as a Family Carer to be living with the person you care for as it is recognised that many Family Carers spend a considerable amount of their time caring but do not necessarily live with the person cared for.

Q: I am worried that the person I care for will not accept the Carer Support Worker.
A: This is a common concern for Family Carers and at Crossroads Care South East Suffolk we try to match the Carer Support Worker as closely as possible to the person cared for’s interests and hobbies. Carer Support Workers always make an introduction visit before the care starts and can spend several weeks getting to know the family to build a rapport.

Q: How do I know that Crossroads Care South East Suffolk Carer Support Workers are properly trained and supervised?
A: All Crossroads Care staff go through a careful selection process on recruitment, this includes receipt of references and completing an Enhanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check. Once appointed the new staff will attend an intense training programme before they are able to provide care in the community, which includes an In-house Induction, Common Introduction to Care, Mobility Assistance, Safeguarding Adults, Safeguarding Children, First Aid, Food Handling, Diversity & Equality and a minimum of two weeks is spent accompanying our regular Carer Support Workers out in the community.

Q: How can I get hold of a Crossroads Manager in an emergency outside office hours?
A: We have an on call system in place please call Mob: 07930811897 in the event of an emergency.

Q: How can I make a complaint or compliment about the service?
A: We welcome feedback. If you have a complaint you can call us and speak to the Manager to discuss the situation or send us a letter or email and this will be acknowledged and dealt with in accordance to our ‘Comments and Complaints Procedure’. We would also like to hear from you if we get things right.
